HIGH EFFICIENCY + TAX CREDITS = BIGGER SAVINGS

What if you could make home improvements that increase your comfort, lower your energy costs, add value to your home, and do something good for the environment? And what if you could get some money back from Uncle Sam at the same time?

Temp Pro Air LLC, a professional contractor who belongs to the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA)can show you how.

New Tax Incentives for the Homeowners
Part of the economic stimulus plan passed by Congress made significant changes and improvements to the tax incentives for federal taxpayers who install qualified higher efficiency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment in their primary residences.

You may now qualify for tax credits equal to 30% of the costs (up to a $1,500 limit) for installing a high efficiency furnace, air conditioner, or heat pump.

Changes made to the previous tax credits allow you to apply the entire $1,500 limit to a single installation. The old tax credit program limited the amount a taxpayer could to $500 and capped certain improvements.

But you have to hurry because these tax credits are only available for improvements made in 2009 or 2010. Not taking advantage of this incentive just leaves money on the table.

Why You Should Consider an Upgrade

Advances in technology over the last ten years mean that today’s higher efficiency HVAC equipment uses less energy, runs more quietly, and provides improved indoor air quality and comfort. And by using less energy and improved refrigerants, your new HVAC equipment is better for the environment.
Most homeowners would like to reduce their energy bills with higher efficiency HVAC equipment, and these tax credit help make the initial investment more affordable.

Talk to your ACCA contractor about finding the right qualified equipment that meets your budget. They can show you how much energy (and money) you could save over the long term.

ACCA is the nationwide nonprofit association of professional heating, ventilation, air conditioning,
and refrigeration contracting businesses. For more than 40 years, ACCA has provided
education and research in support of efficient, safe and healthy heating and cooling systems.

Top 5 Business Card Design Tips

When it comes to designing your business cards, no matter how unique or creative you want to get, you first have to knock out some of the most important questions: What do you put ON them? Turns out, when designing the perfect business card for you, it’s going to change for everyone, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t tips on how to maximize your cards effectiveness before you even get started.

I just found a great article that has the Top 5 tips you should always keep in mind while in the design phase with your future cards. Keep these ideas in mind and you’ll always be ahead of the curve, and the more you have these ideas in mind, the more creative you can get with the actual design of the card…remember, creativity is key! Without further ado, here are the paraphrased Top 5 tips to keep in mind:

  1. Spend the money for a professional printed card - I know it’s cheaper and easier to print your own, but spend the money, you can tell a difference. Trust me.
  2. Keep It Simple - Don’t overload your card with information, just the basics of who you are, and how they can get in touch with you. Make sure your font is readable.
  3. Don’t use the family phone - Remember, they are BUSINESS cards, don’t put your home phone numbers on there, no one wants to hear kids or teenagers answering your business phone.
  4. Create a Title - If you don’t already have one, you need one. Create a title for yourself, if working for someone else, make sure you check with them first.
  5. You’ve got cards–now use them - Keep a stash of them everywhere, you really never know when you’re going to need them. Start giving them away to anyone and everyone that might be able to further your business!

There you have it. Get creative!

5 Ways To Avoid Water Disasters During Monsoon Season

Homeowners, would you like to avoid water problems this year from our July and August monsoon rains? Well, there are things you can check on your roof to help eliminate the possibility of leaks and now is the time before it gets too hot. The following are things to look while up on your roof.

    1. Check the base of your standpipes and vent hoods for cracks in the weatherproofing. If there are cracks in the sealant, it is wise to get them filled.

    2. Check the joint between your A/C unit and the adjacent duct that carries the air down through the roof. There should be no cracks or gaps. Filling gaps here not only prevents water penetration, but also prevents refrigerated air from escaping.

    3. Are there any loose or damaged roof tiles or shingles? If you have a tile roof, check for misplaced or broken tiles that leave the black roofing underlayment exposed. The sun can and will dry out and crack the underlayment, exposing the plywood roof sheathing to water penetration. If you have a shingle roof and a roof mounted TV antenna, check the condition of the shingles under the antenna. You might find droppings from the birds roosting on the antenna have at least partially eaten through the shingles, which might need to be replaced if there is enough damage.

    4. If you have a tile roof, make sure the valleys (the intersection between two roof slopes) are clear of debris or loose tiles that could obstruct the flow of water down the valley and off the roof.

    5. If you have gutters, check for debris and silt build-up in them. The fine dust we have in the air here combined with roof shingle granules can build up in the gutters. When this is combined with the runoff rainwater, it can be quite heavy and weigh down the gutter system to the point where the gutters start to pull away from the house. The fine dust/granule mixture can turn to mud and settle in the bottom of the gutter, where it often does not get washed down the downspouts by the rain.

For help with these things and more give me a call.

All about Antioxidants

Antioxidants are the body’s natural defense against free radicals. As free radicals move through the body, they react with other molecules and damage the cells they touch, resulting in health concerns that range from premature aging to abnormal cell growth and heart concerns. Antioxidants deactivate free radicals before they can damage adjacent cells. In addition to combating free radicals, antioxidants also indirectly build healthy new tissues.

No two antioxidants are exactly alike. Some are fat-soluble, some are water-soluble, some are soluble in both water and fat. Some antioxidants concentrate in the liver, while others protect the eyes or heart. Research studies show that fruits and vegetables or supplements that have high antioxidant values can produce the following
health benefits:

Eye Support. Antioxidants protect the lens and macula of the eye. Antioxidants can protect the eye from sun damage that often leads to age-related macular degeneration. NSP offers Perfect Eyes, Carotenoid Blend and Lutein to promote eye health.

Nervous System Support. Antioxidants can help protect cell membranes from lipid peroxidation (a key step in the changes that can result in central nervous system concerns). Try Alpha Lipoic Acid and Brain Protex for these benefits.

Circulatory System Support. Stress, poor nutrition, pollution, unhealthy lifestyles and the aging process (free radicals) take their toll on the cardiovascular system. Fortunately, several antioxidants help protect heart cells and support the blood vessels. Vitamin E, Grapine®, Co-Q10 and Super Antioxidant provide excellent support to cardiovascular health.

Immune System Support. Antioxidants augment the body’s natural antioxidant levels, increase the body’s ability to destroy foreign invaders and promote the body’s ability to synthesize substances that help fight infections and inhibit abnormal cell growth. NSP Green Tea Extract, Berry Healthy, Super Antioxidant and Vita Lemon may benefit the immune system in this way.

Liver Support. Antioxidant supplementation can support liver function by protecting against oxidative damage and promoting the natural elimination of toxins. Milk thistle is renowned for protecting the liver. Other powerful antioxidants for the liver include Indole 3-Carbinol, Alpha Lipoic Acid and N-Acetyl Cysteine.

Intestinal System Support. Antioxidant supplementation can help keep your colon healthy and clear of free radical damage. Green Tea Extract and Super Antioxidant are important antioxidants for the intestinal system.

Breast and Prostate Health. Antioxidants are excellent for protecting and supporting the breast and prostate gland. Lutein and Breast Assured support breast health, while Men’s Formula and Super Supplemental Vitamins and Minerals (with lycopene) promote prostate health.

Antioxidants and ORAC
The potency of antioxidants can be quantified by determining their Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) values. Nature’s Sunshine, one of the industry’s leaders in technology and product testing, has the ability to test all antioxidant products for ORAC values. These values not only allow NSP to guarantee the quality of our antioxidants, but they also help you choose the antioxidants that are right for you. However, it is important to understand that the ORAC value is just one measure of a product’s value. Products with higher ORAC values may directly prevent oxidative damage as free radical scavengers, while products with lower ORAC values may exert health benefits through other avenues, such as improving blood flow or supporting the body’s detoxification process.

NSP has released ORAC values for several of our leading antioxidant products.

NSP Antioxidant Product / ORAC value
Alpha Lipoic Acid / 1022
Berry Healthy / 115
Brain Protex w/Huperzine A / 418
CoQ-10 100 / 344
Green Tea / 11,638
Grapine, High-Potency / 2617
Indole 3-Carbinol / 4940
Milk Thistle / 4840
N-Acetyl Cysteine / 2324
Super Antioxidant / 987
Vita Lemon / 28

Making The Most Of Local Networking To Market Your Business

As a Small Business, networking with other businesses should be one of the top ideas in your marketing mix. Networking is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get your company’s name out in front of your community.

Networking events like your Chamber Of Commerce and local networking or leads groups are a great way to find prospects, partners and potentially even a built in sales force very quickly if you keep just a few basic rules in mind.

1.Build Your Image – Look the Part
First impressions do count. Your first impression will last for years to come and can either work in your favor or against you. Shorts and flip flops aren’t the best dress to impress new people on your professionalism and skills (unless you work for a travel agency specializing in Bahama cruises, then it might just be perfect)

2.Be Proactive
Be proactive and find people to come up and introduce yourself to. Other people there are doing the same thing you are…Trying to get new business and meet new people.

Don’t be afraid to walk up and say hi.

3.Ask, Don’t Just Tell
Remember this is a two way street. If someone asks what you do, go ahead and tell them about your products and services. Then… Ask about what they do. What’s their business? Let them talk about their business and educate you about who their perfect customer is.

I see it all the time where someone shows up to an event and all they want to do is talk about themselves and how you NEED their product. They never seem to care about anyone else. Once they are done talking about their product, they just want to move on to someone else and repeat the same pitch.

This doesn’t give you a good impression to others.

4.Business Cards – The Must Haves!
Be sure to get your business cards printed before you go to any networking event. Make sure that you bring plenty of cards. Business cards are cheap. You don’t want to be embarrassed when someone asks for a business card you have to say “Sorry I just ran out.”

Also, be sure to get cards from everyone you meet. It doesn’t matter if you are just starting your business or have been in business for years, you need to always be building your rolodex of contacts.

5.Wear a Name Badge
Many people hate name badges but this is one of the most important items you can have for your networking. First off, people will feel more comfortable with you if they see your name. Second, as you go to more events, people will forget your name. It’s just a fact of life. BUT, they will feel more at ease when they come up and see your name on your badge. This will encourage them to come back over to you and talk to you. Nothing is more embarrassing than forgetting someone’s name and trying to have a conversation with them. Help others feel at ease and encourage them to come back and talk to again. This is what builds the relationship.

6.Follow Up Is The Key
So what do you do with all those cards after the event?

Get them in a Contact Management System and follow up!

It doesn’t matter if you use Outlook, ACT or any other system out there. You just want to get them in the system so you have a quick way to access all those contacts quickly in the future.

The important thing is to follow up quickly with them.

You should follow up via email, or phone call within the next 1-3 days at most. Make it a priority.

7.Show Up Early, Stay Late
Show up early to any event that you going to. This gives you the most chance of getting to know a few people before the crowds get there.

Stay late. Some of the best connections are made at the very end of an event. You get the people that are more dedicated (like yourself) and you can build strong relationships in a first meeting with someone this way.

8.Be Consistent
Don’t just got to an event or group once and expect to make a difference. You need to show up more than once. Show people you are dedicated. Show them that you aren’t a fly by night. Some groups will take a few meetings for them to even feel that they can trust you. Schedule it like any other appointment you might have and dedicate yourself to it.

In Conclusion
Using Networking can be one of the most important parts of your marketing mix. I’ve seen my own company grow from 15 clients to over 300 clients mostly directly because of networking. It’s the best way a new business can get involved and get exposure without spending a lot of money.

Just keep these guides in mind as you are making your way to each event in order to get the most out of every event you go. Remember, you’ll get out of it what you put in to it.
